Langflow Alternatives (October 2026)

TL;DR: Langflow is a free, MIT-licensed visual builder for AI agents and MCP servers that you run yourself, now presented by IBM. Swfte Studio is a managed builder for agents and workflows on the same platform as a model gateway. If you want an open-source builder in your own environment, Langflow fits; if testing, releases and multi-user governance matter more, look at Swfte.

About Langflow and why teams compare it

Langflow describes itself as a tool to build and deploy AI agents and MCP servers, with a drag-and-drop canvas, Python customisation and hundreds of integrations. Its code is MIT-licensed and over 150,000 stars are shown on GitHub. Its parent DataStax was acquired by IBM, and IBM now has a Langflow product page that lists Langflow OSS, Langflow Desktop, a Langflow Cloud SaaS option and a watsonx Orchestrate integration. DataStax’s own hosted Langflow was removed from Astra on 9 April 2026, and DataStax points users to Langflow OSS. Teams compare it with Swfte when they want governance, testing and releases around the flows, or a managed service instead of self-hosting. This page compares the two on published facts and says who should pick which.

Langflow sits in the Open-source visual builder for AI agents and MCP servers category. In short: An open-source, Python-based visual builder for agents and workflows, run locally, in Docker or on Kubernetes, and presented by IBM since its parent DataStax joined IBM. Pricing as published is Open-source edition: free under the MIT licence, hosting costs are yours. Langflow Desktop: offered by request form, no price stated. Hosted editions: pricing not published on the pages we reviewed. IBM lists Elite Support as SLA-backed enterprise support, with no price stated. It is best for Developers who want a free, open-source visual builder they can run themselves and extend in Python.

Who should pick which

Pick Langflow if

  • You want a free, MIT-licensed builder you can run on your laptop, in Docker or on Kubernetes, with no vendor in the loop.
  • You want to write custom components in Python and extend the canvas yourself.
  • You want to publish each project as an MCP server and also call other MCP servers from flows.
  • You already send traces to Langfuse, LangSmith, Arize or a similar tool and want them wired in.
  • You are an IBM customer and want Langflow next to watsonx Orchestrate.

Pick Swfte if

  • You want multiple people building and releasing agents under role and tenant controls, rather than relying on a self-run server where its policy leaves user isolation to you.
  • You want testing, versioned releases and rollbacks in the build flow: Studio lists A/B experiments between chatflow versions and version rollback, with golden sets, regression runs and release channels in development.
  • You would rather not run infrastructure: Swfte Studio is a managed service, with customer data at rest in AWS Ireland, and Nexus is available next to it for agent governance.
  • You are comfortable with Swfte’s current gaps: SAML SSO and SCIM are in development, dedicated or private deployment is scoped as an engagement and is not self-serve, and the integration catalogue is smaller.

What Langflow does well

  • MIT-licensed code, free to run: install with uv or pip, as a Docker image, or as Langflow Desktop on Windows and macOS
  • Drag-and-drop canvas with Python customisation, and hundreds of integrations listed on its site
  • Acts as both an MCP server and an MCP client; each project becomes an MCP server, over streamable HTTP with SSE as a fallback
  • Tracing integrations with Langfuse, LangSmith, Arize, LangWatch, Openlayer, Opik and Traceloop
  • Flows export and import as JSON, through the UI or the API

Trade-offs to weigh

  • Its security policy says Langflow does not enforce isolation between users in one process, so multi-tenant isolation is your job
  • The pages we reviewed do not publish a price or plan for a hosted edition; DataStax removed its hosted Langflow from Astra on 9 April 2026
  • The docs we reviewed show superuser and user accounts with API keys; SSO is a separate configuration guide, not a listed built-in feature
  • The Desktop app does not include some features, such as the Shareable Playground and Voice Mode, per its docs

When Swfte is the better choice

When you want a managed service with built-in testing, versioned releases, approvals and multi-user governance rather than running the builder yourself. Langflow is the better fit if you want a free open-source builder in your own environment.

Swfte Studio builds agents and workflows visually, and uses the Connect gateway for model access, so routing, failover and cost tracking are shared. Studio lists testing and evaluation, semantic versions with rollbacks, and human-approval steps in workflows. Nexus adds agent governance.

Swfte is not a drop-in replacement for Langflow. Langflow is free, MIT-licensed and runs in your own environment; Swfte Studio is a managed commercial service. Swfte is also earlier on enterprise identity: SAML SSO and SCIM are in development, dedicated or private deployment is an engagement, not self-serve, and the integration catalogue is smaller.

Where Swfte fits

Agents that decide, with tests around them

Where a model chooses the next step and calls tools, Studio lists A/B experiments between chatflow versions and version rollback, with golden sets, regression runs and release channels in development around the model steps.

A shared builder for a team

Studio is a managed service with role-based access, so you do not run and secure a builder for several users yourself.

One platform for workflows and model access

Studio uses the Connect gateway, so routing, failover and cost tracking are shared with the workflows that use them.

Keep Langflow for local prototyping

If engineers prototype flows locally or in their own cluster, keep Langflow for that and move the flows that need governance and releases to Studio.

How to migrate from Langflow to Swfte

  1. 1. List your flows and their components

Note each flow’s trigger, model, vector store and custom Python components. Check tools against Studio’s 100+ tool integrations plus an API for custom systems. Custom Python components will need a different approach.

  2. 2. Note where self-hosting is required

Flows that must run on your own servers should stay where they are. Swfte Studio is a managed service, and dedicated deployment is scoped as an engagement, not self-serve.

  3. 3. Export flows as JSON for reference

Langflow exports a flow as JSON with its nodes, edges and metadata. We do not list an import for Langflow flows, so use the file as a record to rebuild from. Do not save the export with API keys if you plan to share it.

  4. 4. Rebuild one workflow in Studio

Recreate the trigger, the agent or prompt, the tools and any approval step. Studio’s free plan includes 10 workflows, 5 agents and 2,000 executions per month, enough to test one case.

  5. 5. Move data sources and re-test on real inputs

Reconnect model and data credentials, and re-index documents rather than expecting vector stores to travel. Run 20 to 50 real inputs through Studio’s testing and compare with the Langflow output.

  6. 6. Run both, then cut over what fits

Send live traffic to both for a while and compare outputs, failures and cost. Move the flows where results hold, and keep Langflow for local or in-cluster use.

Frequently asked questions about Langflow alternatives

Is Swfte a Langflow alternative?

For agents and workflows on a managed service, with testing, releases and governance around them, yes. If you want a free open-source builder you run yourself, Langflow fits better: Swfte Studio is a managed service and dedicated deployment is scoped as an engagement.

Is Langflow free and open source?

The code is MIT-licensed, per its repository, and you can install it with uv or pip, run a Docker image, or use Langflow Desktop. You pay for your own hosting and model usage. A price for hosted editions is not stated on the pages we reviewed.

Who owns Langflow now?

Langflow’s parent DataStax was being acquired by IBM, with Langflow’s own announcement dated 25 February 2025, and an IBM post said the acquisition would complete on 1 November 2025. IBM now has a Langflow product page, and the open-source repository is under the langflow-ai organisation.

Is there a hosted Langflow?

Its home page describes a cloud platform and IBM’s page lists Langflow Cloud as a SaaS option, but we could not verify pricing or terms. DataStax says DataStax Langflow was removed from Astra on 9 April 2026 and suggests Langflow OSS instead. Check with IBM before planning around a hosted edition.

Can I import my Langflow flows into Swfte?

No. We do not list an import for Langflow flows. Langflow exports flows as JSON with nodes, edges and metadata, which is useful as a record of what to rebuild in Studio.

Does Langflow support AI agents and MCP?

Yes. Langflow describes agents that use components as tools, and its docs say each project can serve as an MCP server and flows can use MCP servers as a client. Studio lists agents and multi-agent orchestration; for MCP see our MCP gateway guide.

Can I use Langflow for multiple users or tenants?

Its docs describe superuser and non-superuser accounts, and its security policy says Langflow does not enforce isolation between users in a single process, so tenant isolation is your responsibility through process, disk, network and database separation.

Is Langflow SOC 2 compliant?

We could not verify a compliance certification for Langflow on the pages we reviewed. Swfte does not hold a SOC 2 report or an ISO 27001 certificate and does not sign HIPAA BAAs today; a SOC 2 Type I audit is in preparation, and the trust page has the current status.
