Pipedream Alternatives (October 2026)
TL;DR: Pipedream has announced that Workflows and String shut down on 31 March 2027, and now describes itself as the integration layer for AI agents through Pipedream Connect. Swfte Studio is a managed builder for agents and workflows. If you are replacing Pipedream Workflows, you will rebuild; if you need auth and tools for an agent you write yourself, Connect still fits.
About Pipedream and why teams compare it
Pipedream started as a developer platform for event-driven workflows with code in the steps. Its docs now carry a notice that Workflows and String shut down on 31 March 2027, that existing workflows keep running until then, and that signups and subscriptions are closed. Pipedream says it is focusing on being "the integration layer companies rely on to connect AI to the outside world", and its Connect product is not affected. Workday announced the acquisition in November 2025 and later reported it closed. Teams compare Swfte with Pipedream either because they run workflows that must move before the shutdown, or because they want a builder around the agent rather than only a tool layer. This page compares the two on published facts and says who should pick which.
Pipedream sits in the Integration layer for AI agents (Connect); developer workflow product being shut down category. In short: A developer platform that now describes itself as the integration layer for AI agents, with managed auth, tools and an MCP endpoint; its Workflows product is scheduled to shut down on 31 March 2027. Pricing as published is Connect only. Free $0 (development only); Startup $99 per month billed monthly or $90 per month billed annually, with 10,000 credits per month, extra credits at $0.012 each, and 100 external users then $2 per user per month; Business custom with annual billing. Workflows is no longer sold: no new signups or subscriptions. It is best for Developers who want managed auth and a large tool catalogue to give their own AI agent or product access to third-party apps.
Swfte vs Pipedream at a glance
| Capability | Swfte | Pipedream | Checked at |
|---|---|---|---|
| Category | Visual builder for agents and workflows (Studio), on the same platform as the gateway | Integration layer for AI agents: managed auth, prebuilt tools and triggers, an MCP endpoint and a proxy, per Pipedream. The Workflows product is being shut down | pipedream.com |
| Product status | Not applicable: Swfte Studio is generally available and sold today | Pipedream says "Workflows are now in maintenance mode", existing workflows run normally through 31 March 2027, new signups and subscriptions are closed, and Workflows data is deleted by 30 April 2027. Connect is stated to be unaffected | Workflows shutdown notice |
| Ownership | Not applicable | Workday announced a definitive agreement to acquire Pipedream on 19 November 2025, and later reported that it closed the acquisition | Workday announcement |
| Pricing unit and plans | Free (10 workflows, 5 agents, 2,000 executions per month); Pro $39; Team $99 (3 users included); Enterprise custom | Connect pricing is listed: Free $0 (development only); Startup $99 per month or $90 per month billed annually; Business custom, annual billing. Workflows plans are no longer sold | Pricing |
| How usage is counted | Executions per month by plan; see the pricing page for model usage terms | Credits. Startup includes 10,000 per month, then $0.012 each. For Connect, an action, an MCP tool call, a proxy request or an emitted trigger event each use 1 credit per 30 seconds of compute. 100 external users are included, then $2 per user. The docs describe the Workflows rate as 1 credit per 30 seconds at 256 MB | Pricing |
| Integrations | 100+ tool integrations, plus an API for custom systems | 3,000+ APIs and 10,000+ prebuilt tools and triggers, per Pipedream | pipedream.com |
| AI agents and models | Any model reachable through the Connect gateway; agents and multi-agent orchestration in Studio | Pipedream supplies tools and managed auth for agents you build elsewhere, with TypeScript, Python and Java SDKs. A hosted agent builder is not described on the pages we reviewed | pipedream.com |
| MCP | Not listed among Studio’s features on this site; see our MCP gateway guide | An MCP server gives agents access to its tools, and the pricing page says calling a tool through MCP uses 1 credit per 30 seconds of compute. Development use is free | Connect overview |
| Human approval | Role-based access and human-approval steps in workflows; configurable data-retention policies are designed for, not shipped | In Workflows, a code step can pause the run with a resume URL and a cancel URL until someone approves or cancels it; the default timeout is 24 hours and suspended time is not billed. The shutdown applies to Workflows | Pause, resume and rerun |
| Evaluation and versioning | Testing and evaluation: A/B experiments between chatflow versions and safety policies on agents are built; golden sets and regression runs are in development. Versions with promote and rollback for chatflows and workflows; release channels and gradual rollouts are in development | Workflows offered GitHub Sync, which serialises a project to YAML in a repository, with branches and merges. An evaluation framework for model steps is not verified from the pages we reviewed | GitHub Sync |
| Hosting and self-hosting | Managed service; customer data at rest in AWS Ireland. Dedicated or private deployment is designed for and scoped as an engagement, not self-serve | Hosted by Pipedream. Self-hosting is not described in the docs we reviewed. The docs describe a "source-available component registry" on GitHub | Pipedream docs |
| SSO and admin controls | SAML SSO and SCIM are in development | The pricing page lists SSO and SCIM provisioning on Business, with dedicated static IPs and Slack support with SLAs. The security docs say Pipedream supports single sign-on | Pricing |
| Data use | See the trust centre; a no-training statement is pending confirmation and is not made here | The security docs say data is retained "only for as long as necessary to provide the core service", and encrypt OAuth grants, credentials and environment variables at rest. Whether data is used to train models is not stated on the page we reviewed | Privacy and security |
| Compliance | No SOC 2 report or ISO 27001 certificate is held and no HIPAA BAA is signed today; a SOC 2 Type I audit is in preparation (see the trust page). The exact posture depends on your use case, jurisdiction and deployment | The security docs say Pipedream can provide a SOC 2 Type 2 report on request, can sign HIPAA BAAs, is a controller and a processor under GDPR, and runs annual third-party penetration tests | Privacy and security |
| Export and portability | Not verified for Studio on this page | An export tool downloads one project at a time as a zip: a manifest plus one JSON file per workflow (triggers, steps, code, non-secret props, control flow). Secrets, connected accounts, environment variables, event history, data stores and File Store files are not included | Export workflows |

Who should pick which
Pick Pipedream if
- You are building your own agent or product and need managed OAuth plus a large catalogue of tools behind one MCP endpoint: Connect lists 10,000+ tools across 3,000+ APIs.
- You want an SDK-first integration layer in TypeScript, Python or Java rather than a visual builder.
- You use Workday and want an integration layer that is now part of the same company.
- You need a much larger app catalogue than Studio lists: Pipedream states 3,000+ APIs against 100+ tool integrations in Studio.
- You need your existing Pipedream workflows to keep running until 31 March 2027 while you plan the move.
Pick Swfte if
- You are replacing Pipedream Workflows and want a managed builder where agents, approvals, tests and releases are built in, rather than a connector layer plus your own orchestration code.
- You want agents and the model gateway on one platform, with routing, failover and cost tracking shared across workflows.
- You want testing, versioned releases and rollbacks around model steps, which Studio lists as A/B experiments, with golden sets, regression runs and release channels in development.
- You are comfortable with Swfte’s current gaps: SAML SSO and SCIM are in development, dedicated or private deployment is scoped as an engagement and is not self-serve, and the integration catalogue is much smaller than 3,000+ APIs.
What Pipedream does well
- Connect lists managed auth and 10,000+ prebuilt tools across 3,000+ APIs, reachable from any MCP client, per Pipedream
- Workflows let you write code in the steps and, per its docs, pause for manual approval with a resume and cancel URL
- Connect is free in development, and Startup is listed at $99 per month ($90 billed annually) for production
- Security docs state SOC 2 Type 2 reports on request, signed HIPAA BAAs and annual third-party penetration tests
- Now part of Workday, per Workday’s own reports, which may suit teams already on Workday
Trade-offs to weigh
- Pipedream says Workflows and String shut down on 31 March 2027 and that new signups and subscriptions are closed, so it is not an option for a new automation build
- What remains is Connect, an integration layer for developers building agents and apps, not a visual builder for business workflows
- Self-hosting is not described in the docs we reviewed, and the licence is source-available, not open source
- Free is development only; production needs the paid Startup plan or a custom Business contract
When Swfte is the better choice
When you need a place to build and govern agents and workflows rather than a connector layer, and you would rather not depend on a product that Pipedream has announced it is closing. Pipedream Connect is the better fit if what you need is auth and tools for an agent you build yourself.
Swfte Studio builds agents and workflows visually, and uses the Connect gateway for model access, so routing, failover and cost tracking are shared. Studio lists testing and evaluation, semantic versions with rollbacks, and human-approval steps in workflows. Nexus adds agent governance. For teams leaving Pipedream Workflows, it is a managed place to rebuild with those controls in the build flow.
Swfte is not a drop-in replacement for Pipedream. Pipedream Connect is a developer integration layer with a much larger catalogue, and Swfte does not import Pipedream exports. Swfte is also earlier on enterprise identity: SAML SSO and SCIM are in development, dedicated or private deployment is an engagement, not self-serve, and the integration catalogue is smaller.
Where Swfte fits
Replacing a Pipedream workflow before the shutdown
Workflows that call apps, run code and need a person to approve a step can be rebuilt in Studio as an agent or workflow with an approval in the release flow. Check each connector against the Studio catalogue first.
Agents that decide, with tests around them
Where a model chooses the next step, Studio lists A/B experiments between chatflow versions and version rollback, with golden sets, regression runs and release channels in development, around the model steps.
One platform for workflows and model access
Studio uses the Connect gateway, so routing, failover and cost tracking are shared with the workflows that use them.
Keep Pipedream Connect where it is the integration layer
If your product embeds third-party app access for your own users, Connect is built for that. Use Studio for the agents and workflows you build and govern.
How to migrate from Pipedream to Swfte
1. Export every project before the shutdown
Pipedream says Workflows data is deleted by 30 April 2027 and gives an export tool: Settings, then Export Workflows, one project at a time. Each export is a zip with a manifest and one JSON file per workflow. Secrets, connected accounts and environment variables are not exported.
2. List workflows by trigger, apps and code
From the export, note each trigger, the apps it calls and any custom code. Check each app against the Studio catalogue, which lists 100+ tool integrations plus an API for anything else. Studio does not list an importer for Pipedream exports, so this is a rebuild with the export as your record.
3. Decide what stays on Connect
If a workflow exists only to give your app access to third-party accounts, Pipedream says Connect is unaffected by the shutdown. Keep that part on Connect if it fits.
4. Rebuild one workflow in Studio
Recreate the trigger, the agent or prompt, the tools and any approval step. Studio’s free plan includes 10 workflows, 5 agents and 2,000 executions per month, enough to test one case.
5. Reconnect credentials and test on real inputs
Re-enter secrets and reconnect accounts, since none are exported. Run 20 to 50 real inputs through Studio’s testing and compare outputs with the Pipedream run.
6. Run both, then cut over before 31 March 2027
Existing workflows keep running until the shutdown date, so send live triggers to both for a while, compare failures and cost, then switch off the Pipedream workflow.

Frequently asked questions about Pipedream alternatives
Is Pipedream shutting down?
Part of it. Pipedream states that Workflows and String shut down on 31 March 2027, that Workflows is in maintenance mode, and that new signups and subscriptions are closed. It also states that Connect, its API, MCP servers and proxy, is not affected, and that Workflows data is deleted by 30 April 2027.
Was Pipedream acquired?
Workday announced a definitive agreement to acquire Pipedream on 19 November 2025, and a later results release filed with the SEC says it closed the acquisition. Pipedream’s own pages describe it as the integration layer for AI agents.
Is Swfte a Pipedream alternative?
For the agents and workflows you ran on Pipedream Workflows, yes, as a managed builder you rebuild into. For managed auth and a very large tool catalogue to power an agent you write yourself, Pipedream Connect is closer to what you need. Swfte Studio lists 100+ tool integrations against Pipedream’s 3,000+ APIs.
How much does Pipedream cost?
The pricing page lists Connect only: Free $0 for development, Startup $99 per month billed monthly or $90 per month billed annually with 10,000 credits and extra credits at $0.012 each, and a custom Business plan with annual billing. The 100 external users included on Startup are followed by $2 per user per month.
Is Pipedream open source or self-hostable?
Pipedream’s docs describe a source-available component registry on GitHub. We did not find a self-hosted option described in the docs we reviewed. If self-hosting is a requirement, confirm with Pipedream before planning around it.
Can I import my Pipedream workflows into Swfte?
No. We do not list an import for Pipedream exports. Pipedream’s export tool produces a zip with one JSON file per workflow, covering triggers, steps, code and non-secret props. Use it as a record of what to rebuild in Studio. Credentials and connected accounts are not exported.
Does Pipedream support AI agents and MCP?
Pipedream says Connect gives agents 10,000+ tools through one MCP endpoint and works with any MCP client. Studio lists agents and multi-agent orchestration; for MCP see our MCP gateway guide.
Is Pipedream SOC 2 compliant?
Its security docs say it can provide a SOC 2 Type 2 report on request, and that it can sign HIPAA BAAs. Ask Pipedream for the current report. Swfte does not hold a SOC 2 report or an ISO 27001 certificate and does not sign HIPAA BAAs today; a SOC 2 Type I audit is in preparation, and the trust page has the current status.
